Violet Township Women’s League

The Lions Club motto is "we serve" and for over 70 years the Pickerington Lions Club has led The Labor Day Parade and Fish Fry. In fact, 2020 will be our 72nd straight year. We knew 2020 would be challenging, yet in partnership with the city and our sponsors the Lions believe we have a creative and safe approach to keep this tradition alive and well for the community! We will be having a drive-thru parade, where parade participants are stationary and lined up along Opportunity Way, with spectators driving through the route, remaining in their vehicles. The entrance will be on the east side of Opportunity Way. On the west end of Opportunity Way will be an option to turn into Central HS parking lot and pick up a $10 Fish and Chips combo, catered by our fantastic partner this year, Roosters. This minimizes crowds gathering, supports social distancing, and offers the community a safe and entertaining way to experience one of our cities favorite traditions. (parade route map and line up guidance will be coming soon) Parade participants can secure a slot along Opportunity Way to show off a creative and inspiring parade display, promote your business, share a positive message, and celebrate our community. These slots will be 12ft in length with a maximum of 8 people allowed per slot. Slots can be used to set up tents, signs, floats, and other family friendly celebratory displays. Each slot will be separated by 8ft of open space, unless being used together by the same group for larger displays. Our goal is to have stationary sites lined up, like what you'd see moving thru a traditional parade. First responders, military, churches, antique cars, businesses, floats, scouts, bands, politicians, music, and more. Offering the community a memorable “drive-thru” experience full of happy cheers, excitement, giveaways, and more. As it relates to give-a-ways, we will be offering tips and tricks on how to be safe. Reminding those driving thru to keep windows rolled up if they prefer not to receive giveaways and pamphlets, asking people to roll down back windows so giveaways can be safely placed in the rear of vehicles, passenger hold a bag outside of car for giveaways to be placed, etc...Anyone handing out giveaways will be asked to wear a mask and gloves, since you will be approaching peoples vehicles. Drive-thru Parade will be September 7, 10am to 1pm. The reason this style parade is 3hrs vs a typical 1hr, is to allow for what could be hundreds, maybe thousands of vehicles passing through the parade route. Participants can start setting up at 8am. If you would like to reserve a slot along the route, now is the time. Email to get more information and / or to secure your parade slot. The deadline to confirm a slot is August 26, yet they may fill up quick so register soon. The price for participants is ZERO, however donations to the Pickerington Lions Club are much appreciated, helping our club continue to serve those in need.
